Payments

When is my first payment due?

Your first payment is due at the time you sign up for your rental and will activate your 4-month trial period. After that – starting on month 5, payments are billed monthly on the same day you started your rental.

I signed up in the summer – when does my first monthly payment start?

If you chose “Free School Delivery” and signed up over the summer, your first monthly payment won’t start until January 1. Even though you paid the initial fee when you signed up, we delay monthly billing until your child actually receives their instrument—often at the start of the school year. Sometimes this means more than 4 months before your next payment!

Do my monthly payments go toward buying the instrument?

Yes—but how it works depends on your rental type:

  • Brand New Instrument Rental (Rent-to-Own):
Every payment you make builds equity toward owning the exact instrument you’re renting. There is a 20% early payoff discount as well. Stick with it long enough, and it’s yours!
  • Like New Instrument Rental (Rent-to-Purchase-New):
Your payments still build equity, but instead of buying the current instrument, you’re working toward purchasing a brand-new instrument down the line.

Either way, you’re never just renting—you’re investing in your child’s musical future. Want to check how much equity you’ve built up? Just give us a call!

Can I change the card I have on file?

Absolutely. Just log into your account or give us a call—we’ll help you update your payment information quickly and securely.

Are there any late fees?

Yes, there is a $5.00 late fee if payment isn’t received after a 10-day grace period. But our goal is always to help you stay on track—we’re just a phone call away if something comes up.

If a payment fails, we’ll send you a reminder and try the card again. If there’s an issue, we’ll work with you to get it sorted.

Returns

How do I return my rental instrument?

You can return your instrument anytime—just bring it to one of our store locations, or contact us to schedule a school pickup if your child’s school is part of our service area.

Is there a fee to return?

Nope—there are no return fees. Once the instrument is back with us in good condition with all parts of the rental, your rental ends and no further charges apply.

What if my child changed their mind or switched instruments?

We totally get it—musical journeys aren’t always a straight line. If your child wants to try a different instrument, we’ll help you exchange your rental instead of returning it. That way, your rental equity continues to build toward ownership of the new instrument. Just reach out and we’ll guide you through the swap!

Can I return it through the school?

Yes! If your school is partnered with us, we can arrange a return through the music teacher. Just give us a heads-up first so we can coordinate the pickup.

What if I lost a piece, like a mouthpiece or bow?

That’s okay—small accessories can be replaced, and we’ll let you know if there’s a replacement cost. We keep it fair and transparent.

Do I get a refund if I return early?

We don’t offer refunds for unused time, but returning early stops any future payments. You’ll only be charged for the months you used.

School Delivery

How does school delivery work?

If your child’s school is partnered with us, you can select “Free School Delivery” at checkout. We’ll coordinate with the music teacher and deliver the instrument directly to the school—no extra cost, no extra errands.

When will the instrument be delivered to the school?

Instruments are typically delivered right around the start of the school year, depending on when your school’s program begins. Your music teacher will let your child know when it’s ready for pickup.

Do I need to be at the school for delivery?

While we don’t offer live tracking, we’ll send you a delivery confirmation once the instrument has been dropped off at the school. If you have questions before then, feel free to reach out anytime.

What if my child’s school isn’t listed for delivery?

No worries—we can still help! Choose in-store pickup or give us a call to see if we can coordinate a special delivery.

My child missed the delivery—what now?

If your child wasn’t there to receive the instrument, don’t worry. It’s likely with their music teacher or securely stored. Still can’t find it? Just reach out—we’ll make sure it gets sorted quickly.

Summer Rentals

Do I need to return my rental for the summer?

Your first payment is due at the time you sign up for your rental and will activate your 4-month trial period. After that – starting on month 5, payments are billed monthly on the same day you started your rental.

Do I need to do anything if I want to keep the instrument over the summer?

Nope! You can absolutely keep renting through the summer so your child can practice. Plus, with a consistent rental contract, your rental equity will continue to build!

If you need a return pickup at the end of the school year – please notify us no later than 2 weeks before school ends.

What happens if I leave the instrument at school without telling Brighton Music Center?

If an instrument is left at school without notifying us, your rental agreement is still active—and so are the monthly payments. Schools don’t notify us of abandoned instruments, so we won’t know to stop billing unless you let us know directly.

To avoid extra charges, please contact us before returning an instrument to the school. We’ll coordinate the return with your music teacher or arrange for pickup so everything is closed out properly. We’re here to make it easy—just give us a heads-up!

What if my child’s school starts up again in the fall—will we get the same instrument?

If you keep the rental over the summer, yes! You’ll stay on track with the same instrument and continue building rental equity. If you return and re-rent later, the model of instrument may be different.
