Don’t Let Your Instrument Get Gross

A little care goes a long way. Swab it, wipe it, oil it – whatever your instrument needs to stay in top shape. These quick tips will help you keep it clean, sounding great, and safe from mystery smells.

Flute

  • Swab the inside after every use to keep moisture from building up.
  • Wipe fingerprints from keys and body with a soft cloth.
  • Never press or bend the keys while cleaning.

Clarinet

  • Swab the inside every time you play.
  • Dry your reed before storing it in a reed case.
  • Keep corks lightly greased so the joints fit together smoothly.

Oboe

  • Use a silk swab to remove moisture after playing.
  • Check the reed for chips or cracks before storing.
  • Keep corks greased and avoid touching the delicate keys.

Bassoon
